The Advent of Light in Our Lodge
In the month of November 1992, a new Light began to emerge within the Jurisdiction of the District of Columbia. With the steadfast support of the Grand Lodge, a group of Brothers undertook the task of establishing the first Lodge in the nation’s capital authorized to conduct its labors in the Spanish language, giving rise to what would become Alianza Fraternal Americana Lodge No. 92.
On October 7, 1992, a significant milestone was inscribed upon this path. On that day, a group of Brothers—moved by the vision that Masonic Light should also shine in the Spanish language—submitted a petition for a Dispensation addressed to the Grand Master of Masons of Washington, D.C., MWB Jerold J. Samet. In that document, the petitioners of Latin American origin expressed their desire to work under the proposed name “Alianza Americana.”
The petition was signed by the Brothers Mauricio Goldchain, Carlos Ponce, Ernesto Fuentes, Franklyn Gayosos, Amalio Moreno, Baltazar Rosas, and Carlos Landázuri; each signature a testament to their commitment to the expansion of Freemasonry and the preservation of cultural identity within the universal framework of the Order.
The petition received prompt and favorable consideration. Thus, on November 12, 1992, the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia granted the Dispensation, officially recognizing the emerging Lodge under the title Alianza Fraternal Americana U.D. (Under Dispensation) and authorizing it to:
During this period under Dispensation, the officers of the Grand Lodge demonstrated their strong commitment to diversity and the growth of the Craft. Shortly thereafter, the emerging Lodge consolidated its status: on January 30, 1993, it received its Constitutive Charter, completing its formal recognition within the Grand Jurisdiction.
Our First Worshipful Master
A Life Dedicated to Light
The first to preside in the East of Alianza Fraternal Americana No. 92 was Worshipful Brother Mauricio Goldchain, a man of distinguished character and illuminating presence.
Born on July 6, 1920, in Montevideo, Uruguay, Worshipful Brother Goldchain later journeyed to the United States in the late 1950s. He was called to serve as part of The Voice of the Americas, a global news broadcast of the U.S. Department of State, whose mission echoed across nations.
His leadership, wisdom, and devotion provided the foundation upon which our Lodge would be built—guiding its first steps, inspiring its early labors, and shaping its enduring identity.
Charter Amendments
Milestones in Our Ritual and Governance
Over the years, our Lodge has continued to strengthen its ritual, enhance its traditions, and expand its offerings through significant amendments to its Charter:
• First Charter Amendment — May 12, 1999
By due authority, the Lodge received approval to work the revered Emulation Ritual, thereby enriching its Masonic expression and broadening the heritage of ritual within the East.
• Second Amendment to Charter — December 1, 2008
On this date, the Lodge was further empowered to exemplify the York Ritual in Spanish, to be used alongside the District of Columbia Ritual in Spanish, offering our Brethren a deeper and more diverse ritual experience.

Places Where Light Has Flourished
Through time, our Lodge has sojourned in several storied buildings within the heart of Washington, D.C.—each one a sanctuary of reflection, brotherhood, and sacred labor:
